Girard Perregaux

The Graduate

It's nice to own an important part of quartz watch history, and a piece that traces its history from the present day back to 1975 when the Laureato (graduate in Italian) first appeared with a quartz movement.

GP played an important part in the history of the quartz watch movement when they produced the first Swiss Made quartz watch in 1970. The price back then was actually higher than the mechanical watches of the day. In addition, the quartz resonance frequency of 32,768 Hz that is still used in quartz watches today was the frequency that GP used in their first pieces.

The Laureato that you show was produced in the mid 1980's. Is it still running well? Does it hold any particular significance for you?

Hope you enjoy it.

Regards

Andrew
