... you have the watches lit with diffuse natural light with correct colours. Also try some outside shots under cloud, in shade, or in the soft evening light. I think we all became better watch photographers here with some trial and error and wanting to show the watches to their best advantage. If you don't want to take a formal detailed macro movement shot then just hold the watch in the palm of your hand to capture the movement.
Pleased I inspired you to look for a 1999 Chrono. Personally I find the size to be perfect, given the long curved lug design and the thickness of the watch. GP watches 40mm and above have shorter lugs to make them sit well. But there are so many variables such as circumference, wrist shape, styloid prominence that make wrist feel hard to generalise.
