Glashütte Original

A highly underestimated G.O. with an interesting hiostory

Please allow me to add some background information to Massi's observations.

It may not be commonly known that the Senator Observer's dial has an important history.
It lends its design from an old deck pocket watch (cal. 48) that was produced from 1940 to 1968, first by Lange, later in GDR times by the GUB (GUB=Glashütter Uhrenbetriebe=Glashütte Watch Companies).

Deck watches like this were used by officers aboard ships to copy exact time from its big cousin, the ship's main chronometer:

This way the could carry exact time with them and have it availabe for observing the sun or the stars in order to fix the ship's position. Hence the name "Observation watches".

By the way: The company behing the brand "Glashütte Original" has not changes its name since GDR times. It is still named "Glashütter Uhrenbetriebe GmbH" (GmbH=Ltd). See the imprint on their website.
Until something like 10 years ago G.O. even signed their watch movements with the same "GUB" logo as you find it on the dial of the historic observation watch. In the meantime they switched to "GO" to spare their customers some confusion.
Here is a picture of the signature on an older Panomatic Lunar ("borrowed" from his private web site. Thanks Jocke, I am not gonna pay you royalties either ;-) ).

So the force is strong in your Observer. It is a direct descendant of some of the most relevant watches and clocks ever made in Glashütte.
A very essential watch for the conoisseur. Congratulations!

Wear it in good health and enjoy it as much as it deserves!

Best, Martin
