 By: Ornatus-Mundi : March 16th, 2016-05:05
For BaselWorld 2016, the Saxon manufacturer Glashütte Original presented its new automatic movement Cal. 36: It is designed as the new base movement delivering on 4 core requirements: stability ; precision ; power reserve and beauty . The thoroughly-revis...

Thanks for the report!

Cal 36 will be a great successor to the Cal 39 and Cal 100. The silicon balance spring is notable. When I visited the manufactory in 2010, I remember the emphasis was on "tradition", i.e. we do things the way they were done 100 years ago. Seems there is n...

The Cal. 100 I think mainly lacked the emotional appeal of the other movements...

due to its 'technical' appearance and its 'false 3/4' plate. Magnus

My recollection of forum discussion surrounding the cal 100 . . .

. . . when it was introduced ten years ago is that it was slated to eventually replace the cal 39. Perhaps Marcus will comment on this; certainly, it was my expectation. Cordially, Art

Thank you,Magnus, for this very good news and your most interesting report.

A new base movement is indeed a crucial development for a manufacture like Glashütte Original and the result looks very promising on the paper. One more excellent reason to take the trip to Basel tomorrow. See you there, Martin

After absorbing your report over the last few days, Magnus . . .

. . . it's my sense the cal 36 represents years of development from G O. Combining index-free regulation (already a common feature for other manufacturers) with a power reserve double that of the movements it will replace, along with constituent aspects o...

Thanks for this very interesting read about the Cal 36 and its new watch.

Interesting to see the quite constant amplitude for the first half of the autonomy. Very pleasant decoration of the movement, too. As for the dial version, I prefer the steel case, silver dial, for once. Very good offer from G.O this year. Best, Nicolas
