Hi Massi,
we were told that G.O. did not want to introduce a third font for the date.
So they were left with the classic font used e.g. on the Senator Cosmopolite and the clean straight one finally chosen. The classic one would have looked bad because it would have been similar to the numbers on the dial but still too different. That would have been a poor choice.
So the went the way to use the plain straight font for the function (date) and leave the ornamental font to the dial.
