The New Members forum is now open.
This main objective of this forum is to guide you to PuristSPro and to answer questions that you may have, helping and coaching you about this site.
Just to start, take your time to read the basics:
PuristSPro.com is composed of a set of discussion boards, a virtual community where we strive
to live up to ThePuristSPro philosophy of life: pursuing integrity and
perfection in an imperfect world.
PuristSPro.com is a celebration of that commitment to excellence and quality of life.
This document was written to help you navigate this virtual place and
get the most from your time here. We are governed by a simple set of
rules.
Forum structure
PuristSPro is organized into a a set of specific brand forums as well as other more general forums including:
Horological Meandering (HoMe) - the General Horology discussion forum
New Members - Here you are
TimeOut - the forum for anything not specifically watch related
WristScan - a watch photographic forum to share our love of watches. A new thread launches every Friday 00:00 Singapore time
Automotive - cars and more cars, from exotics and sports to anything automotive
WatchTech - discussion about the inner workings of watches
Collectors Market - place to buy and sell watches
Help Desk - a place to ask questions and solve technical issues.
Each of the forums has a moderator who oversees the conversations and
helps members gain the most from PuristSPro.
The ambience of PuristSPro has
been likened to a virtual cocktail party.
The conversations are always
polite but passionate and we expect all those who attend to treat others
as they would want to be treated themselves - with respect and
understanding.

Getting started - Frequently Asked Questions
The following FAQs are designed to inform newcomers about the few rules
that govern this site and to answer some commonly asked questions on the
forums. Please read each one and, in case of any questions, contact a
moderator using the PM (personal messaging) facility.
1. I have a question. What should I do?
Before posting your question, use our Forum Search function to see if
another member has previously asked this question. PuristSPro has been in
existence since 2001 and there is a huge amount of accumulated knowledge
in the archives. If you are asking a question about a specific watch,
please post pictures of the watch (face, case back and, if possible, the
movement). This will likely increase the quality of the answers you
receive, and also allow others to enjoy your timepiece. Be aware that
this is a global website and when you post your question at least 1/3 of
our members will be sleeping. Be patient.
If your question is about the workings of the PuristSPro, please post here on New Members or Horological Meandering.
2. Why there is no fo rum for brand XYZ?
There are probably several watch companies that deserve to be
represented on PuristSPro that are not. It takes a combination of brand
interest from our members, a suitable moderator, and support from the
brand, particularly in terms of access to information and their
corporate knowledge.
Those of you who own or appreciate brand XYZ that is not
represented here, please make your posts on Horological Meandering
(HoMe).
If and when we open a dedicated XYZ Forum, all the posts related to XYZ
on HoMe will be used to populate it and will not be lost.
3. What should I do if I want to sell/buy a watch
There is a specific forum, Collectors Market, where you can do this.
The discussion of monetary values, except Manufacturers Suggested Retail
Prices (MSRP) on any of the forums is generally not allowed, and any post with commercial content may be
edited and/or removed. While we acknowledge that the cost of watches is
an important consideration, focus on price and seller references
overwhelms the more subtle aspects of the aficionado experience,
and it is these aspects that are most critical to true PuristS.
We also don't perform valuations. If you need to determine the
value of a piece there are other locations outside PuristSPro to do this.
4. Can I post links to external sites?
As a rule, we do not allow links to any external trading sites, nor to personal blogs. These
restrictions are related to our general principle of avoiding shilling
(where someone promotes an item for their own benefit).
5. I have a press release/announcement. What I can do?
All official or self-promoting announcements, press releases, or posts
MUST be submitted to a moderator or (remove the spaces) NewsCentral @ ThePuristS.com
.
Any posts or announcements which are not submitted as requested may be deleted without notice.
6. I want to post. What is the protocol?
Please keep the topic relevant to the brand or stated topic of
the specific forum. Discussions about company heritage, tradition,
philosophy, and policies are appropriate. A clear post title, including
the name of the watch you want to discuss, will optimize the Forum
Search function.
Please keep your tone courteous and respectful. The
anonymity of the Internet is not an acceptable excuse for boorish or
rude behavior.
Rule of thumb: word your post as if it were directed at you. This includes posts directed at companies rather than individuals.
7. How do I post a question related to brand X?
First you must locate the specific brand X forum and post there. If
brand X is not represented on PuristSPro, place the post on the
Horological Meandering (HoMe) forum.
If the post involves discussion on more than one brand then the HoMe
Forum is the best place to post. Do not post the same question on more
than one forum.
Examples:
I want to post a question about my Omega watch - post this question on the Omega forum
I want to post a question about my Longines watch - as there is no
dedicated Longines Forum, post this question on the HoMe Forum
8. I have breaking n ews information about a watch and/or brand. How to proceed?
Some news releases have embargo dates (not to be released before this date) and we
respect those dates. Any post which violates embargo dates will be
deleted without notice.
Please make sure your breaking news isn't subject to an embargo before posting.
9. How to organize a Get-Together (GTG)?
Please contact, using the PM facility, a moderator before posting
anything about a GTG. If no PuristSPro staff are involved, your
post will be deleted without notice. This provides additional security
for our members.
Welcome again and don't be shy.
"The bad question is the one that you don't ask ".
Cheers,
Nilo
