And the curiosity of the scientist will bring us hopefully many more discoveries, like "the works of the emerging Asian watch artists from China or Japan". I also hope that the perseverance of all good scientists keeps going on within Magnus, even when his elaborate and highly interesting articles have first to fulfil an educational purpose, without the instant gratification of immediate records of clicks by readers (like the recent articles on the Chopard Minute Repeater), because the theme is still part of a niche. I believe it is this kind of reporting (also offered by Don Corson, to name just one of the other senior reporters) that enriches the forum with truly exclusive articles and shared knowledge, not to be found elsewhere.
When reading the faint signs of frustration ("I thoroughly enjoyed writing in-depth articles..." - "Times have changed, and today I think these long and detailed reports will easily get lost among the immense digital noise."), fears come up in me that we might lose just these pearls by true insiders. Perhaps one day the forum will have to create a new moderator post, with someone asigned to contact contributing (and too timid) members to gather additional information by mini-interviews to go with pictures posted. Quite often photos labelled "my modest collection" cry for some explaining text. A photo might be worth a 1000 words, but it tells often not half the story. It is these stories behind the watches, but even more so, why and how they have been acquired that would be so interesting for me.
The great consulting Magnus provides with this POTM triggered quite som soul-searching with me. His considerations and advice are so understandable when reading them. Applying it all to really focus my own collection in a meaningful way is an entirely different matter (like describing in a comprehensible way what watch you want when you start at zero with an independent master watchmaker offering all options, compared to commenting an existing watch). But I printed the article and will consult it again before the next purchase!
I cannot thank Magnus enough for applying his own high standards to what he is offering us so freely with his articles.
