Horological Meandering

lange calendar would be my choice

Lange all the way. and this may be controversial, but owning 3 lange's and one journe, i believe the langes are better made and more reliable. i've had almost zero mechanical problems with the langes other than doing stupid things like dropping them. and i have had a bit of adjustment issues in terms of getting magnetized, etc. but nothing intrinsic to the movement. the journe has had several bouts (it's a jour et nuit, ruthenium le) of funky dates (such as 32, etc.) and other issues. i understand journe had a number of problems early in the brand and i'm told they are doing better lately and more organized on the service side. indeed my last repair went much easier (last month) than several years ago.

i certainly do not mean to cast aspersions upon Journe. i actually love Journe and there are several models i'm looking at and am contemplating trying again with one of the latest models. but i would mentally categorize it in advance as a riskier choice and would allot/expect a certain amount of repair work as par for the course. aesthetically, i would also say that the chronometre is perfectly pretty and i've been tempted but doesn't blow me away. i think the Lange is a really nice rendention of annual calendar, clean interesting and useful in a complication that i'd previously thought Patek owned hands down.
