Horological Meandering: ignorant question but why do people hide the serial numbers?

I've seen it for years and I presume it has something to do with avoiding fraud, theft, duplication, etc. I get the overarching premise but how exactly would hiding one's number (or for a limited edition, the "3 out of 77", etc.) actually help one? i'm sure it's obvious and apologize for my obtusene

Horological Meandering: lange calendar would be my choice

Lange all the way. and this may be controversial, but owning 3 lange's and one journe, i believe the langes are better made and more reliable. i've had almost zero mechanical problems with the langes other than doing stupid things like dropping them. and i have had a bit of adjustment issues in term

Collectors Market: comment

32 or 33 photos! is it just me? lately it seems that there is a profound lack of editing in all kinds of posts including the market place. i would rather have 4 or 5 good pictures than 30 pictures of every conceivable angle. i suppose it's (sort of but not really) justified in watches for sale but o

Horological Meandering: thanks concerned

i appreciate the concern about the health - fortunately i do realize this is all folly and we are lucky - lucky - to be able to "stress" about problems such as limited editions. when confronted with petty annoyances (traffic, etc.) i like to think to myself "if this is the worse of my troubles i'm a

Horological Meandering: EXCESSIVE PROLIFERATION OF "LIMITED EDITIONS"??

I'll open this discussion without mentioning specific brands. it's an issue that i've found myself increasingly annoyed by. now of course in the world outside watches of actual problems it's obviously trivial and unimportant . but it seems that the word "limited edition" no longer means anything oth
