Horological Meandering

A Journey to the deep abyss...but one that will have no regrets!

This is an awesome post and very heartfelt experience sharing.

Congratulations to your fortunate life with such an expansive (also expensive) collection. This will take a huge support from your other half.

I have been wondering about this hobby direction lately, whether to stick to a single brand or go versatile, like you and I am now, just buying some specific watch of a series of certain brands for their functions, looks or signature.

I know and can foresee I will never go to the extend of hundreds of watches. As MTF said earlier, a gentleman only needs 7 or 3 watches but I will miss the ones that I bought because of the passion, or budget or affordability at different stages throughout our life. That is why I'm still keeping the first few fashion brand Quartz like Pierre Balmain, Phillip Charriot etc.

One trend I noticed is the friendly AD or family own watch dealers will be diminishing as watch brands going into boutiques and keep launching boutique unique collections. In the end, will be just dealing with Sales, unless you have a dedicated Salesperson who works for many years in same place and you keep buying from him/her with minimum price accommodations.

I have set my final goal to less than 5 more in this hobby and will call it good, because I am not able to take care of them all, plus only have 1 son to pass on, if he grows up to be a decent man and deserves it.

At 11, his watch bug suddenly manifested ever since I bought him a slap-on watch on a cruise in Feb, now he's talking watches every now and then for rewards sad( or smile)

With your post, I have some more ideas to guide him grow.

Thank you, Dave, for this wonderful sharing.
