Dutch Music Box and Clockworks Tour, Part 3
Thanks for taking a look at this series of posts on our tour of Dutch clock history. Lest you think we are one-dimensional, we also saw architecture

other tourists,

a few flowers ...

some fish,

some local cultural items,

and then headed to the Museum of the Dutch Clock in Zaandam (town comprised of a collection of traditional houses and windmills)

This museum specialized in Dutch clocks. We had a private tour led by the curator who got a bit detailed in his explanations, just as my jet lag was kicking in. Please excuse my lack of anything profound to say about these.

Lots of weight was required to power this tower clock and carillon.

This bracket is bolted to the wall and the weight of the clock sliding down powers the movement. (See sign on the wall) You have to lift it every day.

I had never seen a clock whose weights went over a pulley, across the wall, and down a shaft into the basement, but it runs a longer time with a longer drop (makes sense)

We escaped into fresh air and strolled through the village with several thousand of our fellow tourists.

The old and the new are side by side throughout this friendly country

We got on the bus and fell asleep. I hope I haven't put you to sleep with this ... please come back for Part 4.
