Education is good but I don't know what classes are offered
I have taken several classes online, and worked with a group to dismantle and reassemble certain Seiko movements.
I purchased a series of videotapes (back in the olde days) that go through pocket watches with tips and techniques from the watchmaker, Bob Tascione.
NAWCC offers a number of classes across the US as well as online; there are chapters in many cities.
Classes will help you understand a bit more about how watches work.
What they can't do is determine whether you have the aptitude to be a watchmaker. As long as you are not intending to make it your profession, I'd take a class or two. If you want to become a watchmaker, find a good local one and cozy up to him and see what you can arrange.
Cheers,
Mike
