I completely understand your view and experience.
I would like to say that I have grown to become a hybrid when it comes to what I look for. Partly on accuracy and reliability, but also on movement, history, and customer service in the long-term. I like Casio’s because of their reliability, but also their style and history. I like Patek because of their beauty, history, and longevity. I pretty much like any watch provided that they (in my view) hold true to their brand, and most importantly I see myself wearing their products everyday. There are a number of brands that I feel don’t quite measure up to this. Whether this is style over substance, poor customer service reputation, VUCA-type strategy, or I see as unappealing.

10 years ago I would not had taken a second glance at, for example, Seiko. I remember seeing this out in the wild and was awestruck. So simple, and pleasant to look at from afar and in pictures, but when seeing in person, wow.
