I get your point, but honestly, I think it is a marketing argument, most of the time. For example, when Panerai used and abused of these see through case backs in the early 2000's

 

Showing some ETA movements, what was the message? Look, we are decorating " our " movements. These are not quartz movements. But what did we see? Decorated, but not finished movements...
