Horological Meandering

It's something I've done...

...with various collections of mine. I've cataloged ancient coins, antiquities and medieval artifacts, 18th century Chinese, German and English porcelain, 17th century furniture, watches, mid-century furniture, paintings, sculptures, prints...the list goes on.

I've always tried to keep my kids informed of what things are, where they're kept and the best way to sell them (based on today's markets at least - I'm sure the markets will change with time). They each show some interest in some collections, but they each have their favorites.

The most important part of any collection is cataloging. With me that's an ongoing process since I've been adding to these collections monthly for the past 30 years and don't plan to stop anytime soon...having too much fun. But I do worry about burdening my kids with needing to liquidate when the time comes. The hardest part for me is trying to decide which kid should inherit certain specific pieces, be it a watch, coin, painting or whatever, since I know there are individual items that they each feel a connection to. Still working on how that's going to work out.

And the list comes in handy, and is actually required by my insurer, so it serves two very important purposes.
