IWC had a blue yachtclub in 1968 already, and here is my father`s Jaquet Droz from 1971 , sligthly a purple fade so `Regal` as another member suggested ;-)
So, blue has been around for a long time and is here to stay i think. Back in the day it was reserved for Platinum cases (PP and IWC ) but now it sells more watches as a 2nd or 3rd iteration of a model in years after introduction ( Black Bay ) What does seem like a new trend, or revival ( Silberstein ), is the Multi color watch as the Omega Ultraman and Hodxxxx MK40 show. For the new kids or millenials ? whatever that may be. Maybe inspired by the smart watches with colorful display?

a limited run for the Japanese market I believe. Yes, the Tresor with the blue enamel dial. Blue is a popular colour and I also fell victim to it's allure with more blues in my collection than any other colour. Cheers fernando

I agree Black is more traditional while Blue looks younger and more casual
A few blue dial watches makes ones collection more lively, but I will stick to Black as the "base" color of mine, especially steel case watches

The blue trend started way back
way before the Omega CK2998 LE came out. It was in the mid-2000s I believe when the floodgates opened and blue dials became at least secondarily familiar with watches as black dials. I recall sometime right before the Speedmaster LE Gemini 4 blue dial cam...
Toilet blue tabs, lolol....what a trend.
My watch bug really grow and started in 2014 when I joined PuristSPro and with the advance in internet accessibility and useful speed. No doubt about your facts... I see now it’s safe to get more blue watches 😬

+1 Purple(Mid Variant of Blue/Red) was the color of Royalty amongst the continental Euro. Choice of Color is very cultural thing - Green amongst the MidEast, Red in SEA

Thanks Raymond, maybe designers are now looking at the 70`s for more inspiration after all the recent 60`s re issues ? The 70`s brought a lot of colourfull watches and funky designs.
And orange was very popular in the 70`s in many watches as well as interiour design. Although i do hope it doesnt get back into swing with seats and sofa`s ….
That’s true, recent years is all about reissue and tributes too, good point.
Maybe designers ran out of ideas 🤣 or the used market and auction prices for them are too good so brands capitalize on the trend. Well it’s a free market and consumer is king now.

Traditionally blue was reserved for platinum or special edition watches which to some extent it still is. The right shade of blue for me blends much better with steel than standard black. Decide for yourself ...
