Press release: Hanhart to launch new Primus chronographs at Baselworld 2009

Press release:

German Engineering – Swiss Made: Première on the watch market

Hanhart launches its exclusive

Primus chronograph collection

Hanhart is launching an exclusive collection of mechanical wristwatches which draws upon the tradition of the German Hanhart watch factory and incorporates Swiss state-of-the-art technology to make it so unique. The name of the collection is a tribute: Primus.

To this day, the Hanhart name stands primarily for highly accurate and absolutely reliable stopwatches. Hanhart was, in 1924, the first watch manufacturer to launch the world's most affordable mechanical stopwatch. At its headquarters in Gütenbach in the Black Forest, this old-established German watch factory with its Swiss origins each year produces around 150,000 stopwatches, which are sold all over the world. Hanhart also manufactured wristwatches in the early days – including in 1938 the legendary “Kaliber 40” pilot's chronograph, which has since become a sought-after item by both collectors and connoisseurs as a faithful replica under the Primus name.

“Back to its roots”: Hanhart AG in Diessenhofen

Hanhart continues to have its finger on the pulse of the times: The subsidiary company Hanhart AG was founded early in 2008 in the little Swiss town of Diessenhofen in the Canton of Thurgau. This is where Johann Adolf Hanhart opened his watch shop in 1882 and where the story of the Hanhart company began. Highly intensive development work on a new chronograph range has since taken place in Diessenhofen – in close cooperation with the parent company at its headquarters in Gütenbach and with highly specialized suppliers in the Swiss watch industry.

New collection in the most refined design

The new collection is now here – and it is immediately making its mark. This is an exclusive sporting chronograph range in a small edition and in the most refined design, which combines historical elements with the latest technology. It also features the distinctive, unique trademark that has characterized Hanhart since 1938: the red button, which back then prevented pilots from unintentionally zeroing the stop time. The name of the collection is an acknowledgement and a tribute: Primus.

German Engineering − Swiss Made

Primus is a collection for connoisseurs and collectors, for people who make their own way in the world. The watch meets the highest qualitative demands precisely and robustly, and it combines the advantages that have distinguished Hanhart stopwatches since 1924. Manufactured by selected watchmakers from the Vallée de Joux to Hanhart's own designs and engineering plans, it incorporates unique know-how in a quite special way. Its sporting and refined image make it a sophisticated accessory which people like to wear especially when life becomes an experience. The names of the models in the range – Pilot, Racer and Diver – express these moments. The materials used in the beautifully styled case, stainless steel and rose gold, emphasize its elegance together with the fluted bezel. The highly legible seconds display with its polished hand on the bicompax dial contributes a further, captivatingly modern interpretation to this benchmark stopwatch. The screw-down sapphire glass back provides an unobstructed view of the fascinating action of the movement and the rotor. Flexible lugs guarantee optimal wearing comfort. Briefly: the Primus collection sets new and exclusive standards as the new generation of Hanhart chronographs: German Engineering − Swiss Made.
