Unitas

Xavier,

The Unitas question actually was the answer to a question I had asked Roland specifically for someone on this forum.  He really would never have even mentioned it, nor I, if this person had not asked me to ask him.  After studying some of the movements Roland brought up such as Hamilton, Ilinois Watch, and Howard Watch it would never have come up in conversation.  I do not think it resembles a Unitas movement at all and I have looked at the the watches movements Roland brought up and there are significant differences between RGM and these three.  I can see where his inspiration comes from and clearly his decoration of the movements, bridges, and plates was acquired in Switzerland with some vintage American influence.  Since I had never seen the caliber 801 in person, only photos, I was absolutely stunned at how nice it looked.  The only watch I own that can compete with the finish is my Grande Lange 1 and the 801 clearly shows more of the movement due to it's bridges.  After quizzing Roland on the quality and robustness questions about the movement, I am satisfied that the movement is very good.  This movement could become "cult" status when more people find out about it and try it.

I am glad you enjoyed my review.  I certainly enjoyed my time with RGM, Roland, and Rich.
