Can we have too many beautiful watches? So far (10 years along this path) I say no. Many of you have seen my SOTC (state of the collection) post in the past 2 years, and I read encouragement. And I was able to encourage some of you to justify your collect...
I think you have conclusively answered that question, and the answer is no. No explanation is required as to why you collect these - the answer is all in your picture. I particularly like the combination of silver hour/minute hands, and blued sweep second...
I would like to hear how you ended up with all of these pieces. I have tried to not purchase any watch that looks similar to anything I already have. More specifically I want one example of all the brands I like before I double up. I don't think my watch ...
Nice collection! I like the top 2nd from the right very much! Arabic numbers, dot markers, blued steel, exactly the type I like but its not on their website.
Always nice to see a focused selection of watches like this. Yup, they are different enough to all have a place. So how about the rest of your story with GSes
Stay tuned, I''ll be back tonight. And bOcy, that's most everyone's favorite. Known only as SBGW003. And I thank SteveG for my obsession with that one!...
In Chapter 1 I will cover 2 things - how I got into Grand Seikos, and how I prepared for this post. STUMBLING ONTO GRAND SEIKOS I had only Swiss watches at the start, and a couple American pocket watches. My foray into good watches began with a very expen...
I've been considering the best way to display the watch photos. Let's try it view by view, first. This is SBGM001, sports watch modeled after the Rolex Explorer, a 39 mm, automatic, steel, solid back, GMT hand, date set by rotating the hour hand (first po...
And mostly white dial with the exception of the SBGM001. Purely for aesthetic reasons I suppose. This is quite some dedication or addiction towards GS watches and I applaud you for the enthusiasm and for sharing it with us. I only have one GS so far but m...
As I look across my entire collection, I have a more balanced mix of dark and light dials than the GS sub-group would indicate. I think there are more attractive light dial models with GS, and the few non-black dark dials (green, blue) are extremely rare....
when it was released especially with the blue second hand. On hindsight I should have got it but i am happy that I waited until now to join the Grand Seiko club even though I am a late entry
Here they come, in the same order as the last post. Let's look at the backs. The "explorer" with waterproofness and sturdiness its primary concern. No window. Drilled lugs. Hefty, protected crown. Snowflake decorated Spring Drive movement Credor different...
. . . a wrist shot - Mike's SBGW001 . . . . . . on my wrist. Terrific collection, Mike, and thanks very much for the effort in bringing it to us. Cordially, Art...
These got uploaded but due to operator error, were not visible in the previous file. I hereby present the side views of all the Grand Seikos, in order matching the previous (and subsequent) stories. 01 SBGM001 explorer is big and bulky and thick and heavy...
Hi Gents, Thanks for bearing with me - it's been a busy weekend and may have bit off more than I could chew on my GS report. Remember that so far I am promising to show you all the Grand Seikos. Alas! Last night I realized I left one off of the list. How ...
Thanks Steve Yes, indeed they are curved to the tips, and curved over the top surface. I tried the word flat to distinguish them from the other two styles, as they are neither split in the center or knife-edge beveled on the edges. Words certainly fail to...
I think for these guys we can start with the specifications table. Following the same format as the mechanical watches, but with modifications as necessary, here's what I found: Mechanical SBGA011 GCLL997 SBGT027 SBGX039 SBGF009 Winding Automatic Automati...
cazalea, You wrote: "I'm including because QUARTZ and PuristS are not often combined in the same post, much less the same sentence. I get some flak from people for having included a few quartz watches in my collection....." I want to explicitly clarify Pu...
that a steel watch can weigh less than a titanium watch. Personally do you prefer the spring drive or mechanical movement in a Grand Seiko? I know the spring drive watches have amazing accuracy and a lovely second hand that glides.
I'll finish this series with one more post containing some analysis and reflection on what I've discovered, and I'm interested in your analysis too. Cazalea...
Hi PuristS, Thanks for your patience as I have struggled to make sense of my Grand Seiko collection. I know you have patiently endured such trials before, as I've found several of my posts (thanks for the help with the first series, Art!) on the subject b...
. . . for your efforts, Mike. I "pinned" this thread a few days ago to keep it in the forefront of the forum because it is a significant contribution. Deeply impressed, Art
Wow, fantastic write up. Congrats on such a well focused and beautiful GS collection. I love them all. But stand outs for me would be, the popular Snow Flake, SBGM001, and I must get myself the SBGW003. Great pics and detailed info and insight. Never too ...
Informative, lots of photos, interesting and considered writing - clearly you put a great deal of effort into it. It had certainly further increased my knowledge and interest in the modern Grand Seikos. Post like this are what make the Purists site so gre...
Although read with the Damascene eagerness of a recent GS convert, that review and analysis stands as the benchmark for those embarking on such an effort for any watch, collection or brand. We should be embarrassed that you make that kind of effort to our...
