Angular Momentum - Manu Propria: The Watches

We have taken a look around Martin’s workshop and seen many of the crafts that he uses making his watches and cases.  Martin makes what is known in French as the “habillage” of the watch, literally its clothing.  The movements he uses are NOS (New Old Stock) movements mostly from the 1960’s and 1970’s of which he has a large stock.  This was the heyday of mechanical watch movement making and before the consolidation of the movement makers who were eventually all bought up by ETA.

These movements are new and have never been used, but all require a complete cleaning and lubrication before they can be used as all the oils have dried out with time.

And now the simply overwhelming multitude of Martin Pauli’s work.
All Manu Propria, “with my own hand”.

I hope you have enjoyed this visit to one of the most interesting and pleasant watchmaking shops that I have been to.  Martin Pauli has created a wonderful environment for himself to be able to realize the work that he likes to do.  His success is an indication that true hand crafts still have a place in this world.
