may make these a challenge for even Roger to avoid.
I will share with you my experiences here of seeing many "hallowed" brands with dials of sultans, and images of politicians, women, all in far from the best taste...some exceptions are of course in existence.
Everytime I see one of those dials, I cringe...the watch has been destroyed!
I rather have a scratched watch, and restore that, than one with a dial with a faceof...
Now, I am not saying of course that Roger will make a dial with the face of some collector on it. Even Lange has made some watches with the symbols of Thailand engraved on it...sigh.
In fact, I feel it may be forgivable to see Lange do that, after all, they are "commercial"...but the AHCI guys are supposed to be less so.
Anyway, likewise , we are both sharing opinions and nothing more.
Dufour, on my last visit has firmly stated his own guidelines, and so did Volker and Vianney...
On the subject of paintings...some of the "commisioned" works that I see, struggle with the painters own soul and passion...unlike those that he had more freedom to explore his direction.
Again, I think I can understand your POV, and I actually agree with you.
I just am concerned with the direction of "personalisation".
I am a collector of probably the most diverse kind...imagine that I would, on the same day..be quite taken by the aesthetics of a Bell and Ross BRO1 and then move on to examine the Chopard LUC's dial...and then be absorbed by an URWERK design. Genta...Harry Winston...everything.
I have yet to carve or engrave anything on my watches...but I have seen some really GOOD ones that were carved...no problem.
Thanks for the counter point!
