Habring2 for the explorers amongst us: Felix and Erwin 'Scientific'

In collaboration with Philadelphia-based retailer Martin Pulli, Maria and Richard Habring have given their lovely brothers Felix and Erwin a scientific upgrade:

Felix (right) and Erwin (left) are the first watches of the Carinthian couple with a completely in-house movement, Cal. A11, which also is the first Austrian manufactory movement of modern times. The entire construction of the watch relies on Habring2's own work in their atelier, supported by Austrian family businesses as suppliers. This, the no-nonsense design and their price/value received ratio convinced the jury to award Felix with the ‘Petit Aiguille’ at the GPHG 2015. More can be found in my introductory article (click here !).

Erwin is this year's addition to the line, and comes with an adaptation of Habring2's jumping second mechanism.

For the new 'Scientific' edition, Habring2 designed a reduced sector dial, typically with the four large hours indices, here in blue, black 5-minute bars and red minute counters. The hands are sword-shaped and heat-blued.

Both watches come in the same 38.5 mm diameter, however, the introduction of the jumping seconds in the Erwin required a slightly thicker case band for this watch: 9 mm vs Felix' 7 mm. The following images illustrates the difference very well:

Flipping the watches over, one nicely see where the 2 mm add their fat: There where we all experiecned it: at the belly button ;-)! Seriously, the additional bridge hosting the jumping seconds train is clearly visible. One aspect I find particularly attractive is the alsmost fragile three-spoke top bridge;

Both Erwin and Felix are 'limited production' of maximal 10 watches/annum, and are exclusively made for the US market.

Enjoy,
Magnus
