I‘m not an expert on this at all, but I would think that everybody in the Swiss watch industry does rely on collaboration with external suppliers. Just from the way this industry is organized, I assume much of the innovation comes not from watch houses but from parts specialists.
Do you have more information on the criticism to LF? Always interesting to learn about other people’s perspectives.

There are some great Galets, Galet Squares, Montres d‘école in this forum. Micro rotors, tourbillons, manual wind movements. Dials in every color, stainless steel or rose gold pieces. All of them mesmerizing, all with their particular style. All beautiful...

I think the brand is very under-rated for what it is, as much focus is on the sports/steel models at this juncture

It's interesting how people have criticized LF for working with Swiss manufacturers for various parts to LF design, while idolizing Philippe Dufour who does the very same thing.
In fact, PD's designs are based on a 1950's movement and so have less horological interest than an LF. Not to knock PD, but just to say that LF has suffered undue criticism.

Yes, a lot of "in-house" is still done off-site behind the scenes.
The criticism is just something I've noticed in comments in various watch fora.
