It's not a manual/auto issue. I feel......

 

movement does not have a good flow in terms of the lines of the plates. It's probably originally designed as one big 3/4 or larger plate. However someone might have decided halfway that they should show more of the movement components so they proceeded to cut the big plate where they can. P brand has done this before and they look half hearted with the narrow separations. Movement is clearly not designed for showcasing. Vauche did it worse imo. Because they tried to cut aggressively around the jewels and screws to show some interior angles, the shape of the plates just started moving against one another. It's especially bad when the plates are very close to one another because you expect them to complement each's contours. Better effort, but I think awkward.

Clearly this is my subjective opinion, because someone at Vauche thinks it's ok.
