Very beautiful, but ...

 

... the miniature painting art's decline is apparent, when you compare these watches with those in the possession of the various watch museums. Two hundred years ago, miniature painting was a very common art, since it was the only way to take the pictures of the family, or other dear scenes with during a travel. Since most painters regularly used to paint miniatures, it is clear that the rich people could afford the very best of them. Today, only a few people still exercise this art, and you have to accept what they are delivering. Especially, when considering the fact that human labour, even that of renown artists, was a lot cheaper 200 years ago:













I shot these pictures several years ago in the MIH. Unfortunately, these are all antique miniature painting watches I had in my archives, but there is plenty of information and pictures available to prove my point.
