You are absolutely right
Each piece has its own story. I have come a rather long way to building my present portfolio, with countless joys and regrets along the way.At this juncture, approximately one-third of my collection are from independent watchmakers, along with prominent brands such as Patek, VC, JLC, Panerai and Lange. Independents are no doubt a major theme in my horological journey and I plan to stay that way. The only problem is that there is a rather weak secondary market for the independents (with the exception of a few 'masters'. so I have to ponder real hard before making a plunge. Chances are that I will be stuck with the piece for good 
Just in time for Christmas
I waited patiently for almost two years for the Roger Smith Series Two and....it came in just before Christmas Eve!!! Amidst my excitement, you must pardon the mug shots taken with a smart phone... It comes in a nice box - the C in the serial number stand...

this is by far my most favorite brand / watch ever
I love some Panerai, Rolex, Patek, Lange But if I could afford it .. a Smith would be my dream watch Far above Dufour or Voutilainen .... Those 2 would on the other hand still be my dream piece nr 3 and 3 Saw 2 or 3 of them in 2006 when I met Mr Smith ......
The Simplicity, even at 37 mm, is a bit too small for my personal taste and
as for the Voutilainen, I prefer the older Observatoire to the more modern Vingt 8. As for the Series Two, I originally found it too traditional, but amazingly, the engraving changes everything.... Best Sam
