I think you’ll find that the crowns weren’t necessarily consistent with the Portugiesers. They were manufactured in batches and at different times over the course of at least a decade.
If IWC still sponsors a dedicated Forum then I would suggest you post these pictures there. That Forum has thousands of experts on the brand.

my 228 is with similar thin crown. I also notice the thick and big crown is for ref 325.
