But I have really been enjoying these old friends this week. Back in the '90s and early 2000s I was a big fan of IWC and a recent rotation from the back of the safe reminds me of why. Kent ...  

No-nonsense industrial tool watch design and an impeccable build quality. For me these are timeless classics.

So what happened to them? I find they lack identity nowadays. It's such a sterile brand.

Of luxury watch buyers and it seems to be working for them. We can debate this subject to no end without an actual conclusion to our satisfaction.

Maybe I'm too nostalgic and I like old watches. The current iterations are too big. And they ruined the ingenieur as well.

I have been impressed with several of the newer pieces (Portuguese 40, smaller Big Pilot, Tribute to 3705), the new movements and very impressed with Chris Grainger-Herr and the changes he has been making at IWC. I'm anticipating more to come.

I miss the MOD hands compared to today's version for the pilot collection. A new GST line-up would be a refreshing sight. And for goodness sake, IWC please, fix the Ingenieur case back to "normal". Just my opinions of course. The new watches are great too... 

My 3227, while quite a chunk of steel, seems to me to be about the last Ingenieur with any of the original DNA. I’m good with the newer watches although I don’t have any right now. They just seem a bit less individual, more homogeneous and thus probably a... 

Wish they could go back in that design era. In their current line up, only portugieser 40 mm that still make interest for me, albeit still a bit too big for that huge dial. ...  

I know IWC has done one or a couple of tributes, but I assume you have the original! I loved my 3536-01 as it was my favorite work travel watch…no one really knew of its value and anti blingy relative to rolex.

We may meet again someday... with an old Da Vinci Perpetual Calendar, a watch that, in my opinion, is perhaps the real turning point in modern watchmaking. Thanks for the post, massi ...
