IWC

You’re right that aesthetics often play a role, especially with display backs – but

there seems to be a technical distinction between the two.

The IWC-manufactured 82110 calibre features the brand’s upgraded Pellaton winding system, now using ceramic components for improved durability and efficiency. It’s a more refined movement overall, with traditional finishing (Côtes de Genève, perlage) and is positioned higher within IWC’s movement lineup. It’s found in pieces like the Da Vinci Automatic and the Portugieser Automatic 40.

The 32111, while also in-house, is a simpler, robust calibre without the Pellaton system. However, it boasts a massive 120-hour power reserve, which makes it highly practical. It’s used in watches like the Pilot’s Watch Mark XX or Aquatimer Automatic, where utility and longevity are prioritized.

So while both are solid movements, the 82110 is arguably “better” in terms of horological craftsmanship, even if the 32111 wins on practicality and autonomy.
