Jaeger-LeCoultre

Thanks for your thoughts E.

I think the 70eme is  an extreme watch. I love it - but it is quite thick and very heavy (mine weighs 168g). Why do I love it? The balance of the dial is something I love - particularly in the platinum version where the blues, greys and silvers come together like poetry. The 8-days is very practical - and a JLC specialility - so fits very well with making an anniversary piece. I also really love the movement - the size allows you to really enjoy - and the finishing is exceptional. On the movement side I think I love the rose gold version even more - but the dial swings it in favour of the platinum for me. Sometimes when I wear it I think the weight and size are mad - but them I look at my wrist and change my mind!

Comparing the 60eme and the Geographique is very interesting. On the front side the Geographique is very classical and symmetric - and give no clues that this is a complicated piece, while the 60eme is asymmetric and a little crazy. The 60eme is less elegant - but the asymmetry, contrast between the gold and blue steel hands and the JLC logo make it more dramatic. Less perfect - but more beautiful? On the reverse side it's a huge contrast. The 60eme shows a very beautiful quite classical movement - and the gold colour looks great against the case, the Geographique is a very dramatic contrast - with a very bold design completely the opposite of it's classical side.

I love both - but the Geographique was my first choice. Your thoughts on the practicality of the complication are spot on, when I used to travel to India and Australia I needed to take a different watch - but they do have a romance - and they mostly work!

I completely agree about the Sun/Moon - it's a really lovely watch - just hard to decide which colour! With the Art Deco - I absolutely love the skeletonized movement - but I think the dial is a little plain compared to the pieces we're discussing here - so one that doesn't quite work for me. I also think the white gold version pops a little more - mainly because I love the gold/white contrast on the movement side.

I have a purist friend who has the 90s chronograph - so hope we can get the watches together next year!
