Jaeger-LeCoultre

A Strong Offering

I was struck by the beauty and strength of this model when I saw Nicolas' preview images, and I'm pleased to say the impression was reinforced when I had the opportunity to wear the watch. Philippe Bonay visited the Miami boutique about a month ago with a traveling collection of SIHH novelties, and our hosts were gracious enough to allow many "hands-on" trials with the new models.

Even alongside the new Extreme Lab 2, Spherotourbillon, and Reverso tribute, the black dial Master held its own and remained impressive. Given the real (as opposed to cultivated/marketed) modern importance of the Master Control 1000H to JLC's heritage and identity, I feel as though the new Master Control is a more important and more appealing watch than all of the tribute models.

The steel/black MC is a very contemporary and forward-looking timepiece: a future classic, not a nostalgia play. Hopefully, its emergence indicates that the manufacture is ready to move onward and rediscover its appetite for experimentation and risk that defined it from the mid-90's to the late 2000s. Coincidentally, those were the years that we were fortunate enough to see a flourishing of black and blue-dialed watches from Le Sentier...

Best,
Tim
