I always liked the rectangular cuts in the hands to reveal the ... leap year indicator?

No, the danger zone indicator. In red when between 10 PM and 3 AM, otherwise in white.

Somehow they managed to make a perpetual calendar dial is not only very readable, but the overall result also transcend simplicity of the dial. It is busy without being busy…quite nice results!

It depends on the price range, indeed. But at that price range, one of the best, if not THE best, in my opinion. It is good to be biased, sometimes. :))))
