Grande Reverso Duedate - what happened to caliber 976 and 986?

This is my Grande Reverso Duedate 986 from 2011, one of my favorite Reversos. I used to have a Reverso Grande Date, but it was just too thick for me. I feel this one works much better on my 7" wrist. I also have a more contemporary Reverso Tribute Moon, but that watch is even longer than this one.
I do have a question. Why has JLC decided to discontinue caliber 976 (and 986 in this watch)? With a freesprung balance, 48 hour power reserve, and 28800bph, it would be a superior movement comparing to 8xx calibers, at least on paper. One thing i have to admit is that 822 has a more traditional look than 976 in a display back, and in my eyes, prettier. But most of the Reversos have either solid caseback or dueface anyway.

But should I if I can’t even spell the name right :). It’s Duodate not Duedate.
I will take a group picture of my three JLC. Besides the two Reversos I have a Geophysic Universal Time. Even though I hardly travel now during pandemic, that watch is actually perfect for scheduling Zoom calls with attendees from global offices.
