Issue with The JLC Grande Reverso 976 Movement?
Hi all,
Recently got myself a pre-owned 976, and I encountered this strange issue which I have not seen with my other manual-winding watches.
It appears that for this movement - which I have also seen in old forums posts on other sites - needs to be "kickstart/jumpstart" in order for it to start beating. In other words, if the watch has completely stopped and I start winding it, the watch will not start operating until I shake it gently midway through the winding process.
On the other hand, my Moonwatch, for instance, will start operating (from a complete standstill) after 15 turns.
I am still quite puzzled by this issue - would be very grateful to hear first-hand from any 976 owners, or any JLC enthusiasts whose manual-winding JLC watches might have this similar quirk. Strange enough, my previous manual-winding Duoface and Base Reverso does not have any similar issues.

Some Movements Are Like That
Depending on the movement, some need more 'help' than others. Do you know when the last time your timepiece was serviced? If it has been more than 10 years it could need a nice refresh.

I do not have the full service record, but based on the registration date it is less than a decade old. Will consider sending in the piece for some maintenance, nonetheless!

I’ve owned a Reverso with cal 976 and don’t recall having this “issue”. However, I own a large collection and a couple of my watches (other brands) have the same characteristic, just need a gentle shake to start the movement. Hasn’t bothered me at all. ...

Out of about 100 or so. My suggestion, and that of my watchmaker mentor, is not to worry about it. Cheers Mike

the manual/instruction booklet for mine does not state how many turns of the crown are required to start the watch . just to fully wind it-having said that... it does take a lot of winding to get sufficient torque in the mainspring to get to the escapemen...
Ah yes, I mean gentle flick.
Not going to be too rough with a slightly delicate piece, haha. Maybe I am just spoilt with pieces needs only a few turns to start running. Thank you, nonetheless!
This happened to some of my other manual winding before too
Not to my Reversos so far but other watches like the Lange 1. After sending for service the issue stops. My watchmaker told me one of the reason is dry oil. After oiling during servicing, this doesn't happen again. I'm not technical so I took his word for...
