I don't think JLC's decision ( about the solid case back ) was motivated by an acoustical reason, as the Memovox from the 90ies came wioth a transparent case back and it sounded nicely.
BUT, to me, and this is just my guess, I think that JLC heard some of the critics made about case backs letting show a nice movement, but not terribly finished.
Don't ge me wrong, the 956 is a nice caliber, but not one of those which have to be showed behind a sapphire glass.
Therefore it is an automatic caliber, so the rotor takes a lot of place, and hides the movement.
