Jaeger Lecoultre Gyrotourbillon One Hybris Mechanica Series.
When I saw this version in the flesh, some 4 years ago, I was speechless.
The work on the movement, on the dial ( which is the same, by the way, as the movement is the dial ) is just breathtaking, spectacular.
I didn't expect that one.
Now, 4 years after, I would say that I prefer the original, I mean the first edtion, which came in 2004.
Why? Because the magic of the Gyrotourbillon, in my opinion, is a bit lost in the superb détails. Your eyes come and go focusing on the decoration.
While, on the original, you can focus on he Gyrotourbillon, then on the Retrograde Perpetual Calendar, then on the Time... Whenever you want, according to the mood of the moment.
Better said, with the Hybris Version, all these détails cannot be differenciated enough.
Here are some live and recent pictures of a Watch we rarely see:
When I was looking at my pictures of the Gyrotourbillon One, I was surprised to notice that, for a 10 years old Watch ( the first version, not this one, to be clear ), it was still young looking.
There are many watches which, 10 years after, seem to be aesthetically outdated.
There is only one detail, one part of this Watch, which may be out of fashion, nowadays: The case, since JLC worked a lot on the cases of their watches.
But I could happily live with that, as I consider it as one of my dearest Grail.
What do you think?
Best,
Nicolas
