The best sounding Westminster Chime I've ever heard on a watch!
Most watches that do the Westminster Chime (and there are only a very few) don't sound very good. But they're forgiven because it's so complex anyways and your expectations are tempered. When I saw this one at SIHH 2019 (or was that already W&W 2019, I forget), I was very skeptical. Ready to roll my eyes at this futile attempt to accomplish this impossible task. But when they played it, it was clear - the tone of the notes were correct. The volume level across the five notes were correct. Wow!
This is definitely a superlative piece from a superlative manufacture. A manufacture who takes on risky projects - with the real potential of failure - to make just a few watches that will never truly be significantly profitable for the brand. There's a reason why JLC is the watchmaker's watchmaker - they will do daring things that conservative brands simply won't do. When was the last time Vacheron Constantin did something truly groundbreaking that had a significant risk of failure? The high beat and slow beat Perpetual Calendar?
Bravo JLC. Bravo. While I don't plan on acquiring this Westminster Chime - I've got other bills to pay (namely clocks) - and it's a little big for my wrist, I do applaud the efforts of this amazing Maison. And thank you Amanico for mentioning it again! What a piece!
