I think you are witnessing a remarkable transformation by Montblanc. 20-30 years from now, their watches will be as well known as their pens imho.
The "previous generation" of Montblancs had some interesting examples.
The Star Perpetual Calendar watch had an unique and patented crown locking mechanism to protect the calendar mechanism. It utilized the same Valjoux 7750 modified movement as its more famous IWC counterpart.


There was also the skeletonized Piguet movement watch created for Montblanc's 75th anniversary and skeletonized by Kurth Schaffo.
