A lot have been said about the Frey Minervas from the 90's, from JLC quality for 1/4th of the price to lowend "internet watches". The case and dial are of highend quality with very nice blued hands! (compared to my JLC MGT) The movement is an old design by André Frey and was made with the old and orginal produktionequipment. Very charming and a nice handmade decoration, but the movement is unfinished on the dial side. The calibre 48 is a 50's midrange movement with a nice decoration and cannot be compared with modern highend movements. My watchmaker said the Calibre 48 was similar in quality with the Peseux 7001. I used the watch for about five years before a full service was needed. The movement was a bit dirty around the crownwheels, but there was no unnormal wear. Only the gaskets were changed. Four years after the service the accuracy is +/- 5 sec a day, and the movement looks very clean. Minerva made a very charming watch with an inhouse movement for a very affordable price! Jean Jacques Frey called it the very essence of a watch. The "italian" Minervas had a much higher finish on the movements, but were also 10 times more expencive! Regards Livius
