The Star Roman collection
Is actually quite popular in Singapore! I have 2 friends/colleagues who bought it last year (the central sweeping hands version).
What they love about their Star Roman watches are the blued hands, guilloche dial (you are right Ping, the dial has more depth than usual due to the design) and the classical yet modern look with the Roman indices.
For us WIS, we mostly prefer no dates on our dial but these 2 friends of mine like the date feature (although one of them prefers a more traditional rectangular or square date window).
I have also seen Star Romans in the wild before, including one in the Singapore Airlines lounge recently in the Singapore airport as I was traveling for business and that was the Star Roman small seconds 
Very nice on a gentleman's wrist (he was well dressed in a suit). I was tempted to ask a wristshot but was too shy :p

I guess the date window didn't bother me and you are right that most of the public will probably prefer the date for practicality sake. Only PuristS would prefer not to have the date. I also thought that overall, it was a good design and a pretty good val...

Thank you for pointing that out. It's a slight break in design. I suppose it's minimal enough that it doesn't disrupt the flow and balance but I question whether it was absolutely necessary. Thank you so much for your comments.

Thanks for the review Ping! As far as the date window, I like how the date window isn't just a simple plain cut out of the dial. This MB date window has a 3-D cut so the date window looks integrated smoothly. I wish more brands did this same thing because...

Very comprehensive "sum up" review & nice pictorial !.. I agree, this is a solid entry level timepiece with classy design features !..
.. Live the central Guiloche and the leaf shaped hands; as you rightly pointed out, light will make them get alive, when the watch is tilted or light source moves.. Another asset for me is this onion shaped crown, also a design code signalling " solidity"...
