There is one solution: Take both! Historically, the Vintage Rad had a solid case back, except some protos. So the 232 is 100% correct. I went for the Cali, because of its dial, and I regreted to not have a solid case back... The movement in the Cali is a ... 

is spending more wrist time than 249 as the 249 feels very light for me, because of the case back. alepos

And would have actually preferred the 249 to have come in a solid case back since the plexi in addition to the display back makes the watch feel too light. I guess if you can only have one the Cali is the way to go since Panerai is unlikely to release ano... 

The PAM 349 is not a true representation of the Cali dial due to the addition of a small second subdial and way overpriced.

As amanico said, it's historically accurate. However, I find it to be a very difficult position to be in when you're faced with having to pick either of the two - 232 or 249. Throw in a 127, and you'll just succumb like some who'll end up with all 3 All w... 

For me it was a major plus point when I bought mine.
