For me....
furthering this type of subject would be a loose/loose situation. Sometimes, the members of watch fora forget that they represent a less than infinitesimal number of watch buyers and all the "pretenses", "must have" are just personal taste, like a tie or a brand of cigarettes. There are more "tourists" that buy a watch...any watch...because the strap, at the moment of the purchase, matches the colour of their SOCKS, then people that PRETEND to dive the Marianas Trench and shortly after go to the pub for happy hour, without having had time to go home and change the....watch. I lump all these idiosyncrasies under the heading: whatever floats your boat..and live happily 
I think the DUE series look really good
Of course they do not have the same specs as the classic Panerai models, like for instance water resistant. But who cares; I do not know anybody who dives with his 47mm Panerai. At first I was a bit sceptical, but I think this is a good move. GEO
This will be a hit with the ladies and those who don’t like chunky watches.

I am not at all a fan of the due series.
The crown protection just looks silly to me. If I want some smaller panerais then i would always go for a Radiomir . But tastes are different and in this context the dues are contributing their part on it .

there are quite a bit. Not as many as the "turists", to be sure, but there are a number of...us...that think: "I wish I had died BEFORE seeing these abominations".

I would probably choose life over seeing these watches, but they do seem at odds with what Panerai was always about. If I want a smaller watch, there are many choices. Panerai is attractive to me for its history and simple, bold design, intended originall...
For me the question is not so
much if we all are diving or not. I think it is more a question whether the case is able to protect the movement sufficiently against all exterior influences. And for me the WR is a strong indicator for this quality. And the high ability of the watch case...
A Panerai that withstands
just the rain... Why not at least WR 100m? I am sure this would have been possible. So: sorry, not my cup of tea... But that’s just my opinion and I am convinced there exists a market for this model. Best, Thomas

This is clearly a dress watch.
No diving intended whatsoever. Crown guard has evolved from a practical implement to a trademark decoration. Can the die hard Paneristi be more forgiving? The brand has clearly evolved and are offering more than just dive watches.
What's the problem
for a modern watch manufacturer to provide a case with a WR not less than 100m? There are watches for less than € 1.000 which are able to meet this requirements. And there are watches for more than € 50.000 that don’t fulfill this criterion. I wonder why?...

WR should be considered as
a sign of essential quality of a watch. A case should PROTECT the movement against all exterior influences like impacts, shocks, dust, mud, water etc. The more delicate a movement is the more important is the robustness of the case. Perhaps this should be...

100m water resistent should be a basic requirement on any panerai . Neither panerai nor us should be discussing something a circumstance like that.
