Thanks for your reply. Actually, I spoke to Panerai yesterday and they said they are going to replace the movement, which means it will have a new serial number. I had hoped they would replace this watch, but it was a special collection of only 300 and supposedly there are no more available. This is on the 7th return for repair to Panerai, so they are recognizing the problem. They also stated that my warranty restarts when I get the new movement, which I am happy about. I have asked them to include an extra strap for my pain and suffering...

The rotor on my PAM 98 doesn't spin freely. Most rotors that spins freely are uni-directional wound movements. ie: it spins freely in the opposite direction to direction which winds the watch. Because this movement winds in both directions. One direction ...
