Omega

MC 2.4MHz

Hi Bill,

In fact, the reason Omega had to send the commercial Marine Chronometers to Besancon for certification is because, soon after the initial certification of the prototypes (2 certificates were issued), the Neuchatel observatory modified the marine chronometer requirements. The dial now needed to have a diameter of at least 60 mm, which automatically disqualified the Omega watch. The reasons for the certification change are unclear. Omega Saga ( page 215)

Later, in the 80s, Neuchatel would certify the 4.19MHz marine chronometers submitted by Omega.

Regards, Thierry
