Chopard Chrono One is SS
Comes to mind with a panda dial, but, pricewise, I suspect it may be higher that what you have in mind. As Art mentioned a Movado might be a good option, particularly their new Datron Chronograph, with a retro look, but modern day specs, which might come useful. I had the opportunity to see it at the Dallas Boutique (apparently they will only be available thru the boutiques), and I was quite surprised with the feel and overall quality, specially at a very reasonable price.

what about one of Tag's recent vintage-looking pieces? You get the 1969 style, but 2009 sapphire crystal and waterproofness... this would be but one example, I know they have one that exactly matches your description, but I can't find a pic a...
