i would consider a properly...

i would consider a properly installed home safe
very safe. mine isnt even very hard to find. you wont see it unless you know
where to look, but i can open it and change a watch within 10 minutes or
less.

insurance is a very good thing to have for when
you wear it outside, but with a few of my watches someone would need to shoot me
or cut my arm off to take it.

the other good technique is to not  be very
open about what you own. i live in a very small village, the road outside is
only 4m wide, a stranger would be picked out miles away so i'm very lucky as i'm
unlikely to get an opportunist burglar. the last real crime in our village was
over 5 years go. some of the villagers know what i collect, only a couple of
close friends know what i actually own.

if you go on fleabay have 2 accounts. 1 for
buying and 1 for selling. if you have only 1 account and sell several high value
watches then buy some people do monitor and pick these things up. all they'll do
is buy one of yours and hey presto they have your address!!

in a city its easier to be anonymous, but your
more open to an opportunist.

when you buy a safe buy one bigger than you need
as i bought what looked like a big one, now with only 40 watches its full and i
have some cheaper watches out of the safe.

best advice from the resident expert in UK crime
prevention :) (i might as well do something useful with the knowledge i gained
as a copper).

best
