The straps being sold legally in the EU have to have a CITES permit.
And if it died of natural causes....I don’t know.

Arie, Sure.. No problem. I was only kidding. CITES accreditation suffices and it's not on the endangered species list. Nobody has found a way to breed them in captivity....as if anyone would try They seem quite deadly by all accounts. I was most surprised...

Don't believe I've ever come across hippo hide before . . .
. . . as a strap material, but, interestingly enough, I have come across elephant hide for pool cue handles. It's supposedly the best in functional terms, even better than traditional Irish linen. Art
