Omega

Ref. 2179 vs. 2384

I also have one of these "US Army" watches.  When doing research before the purchased, I found, as you have, that this dial and case style was used with two different case references.  While the bezel, crown and mid-case is identical between the two, there are differences in the casebacks other than just the reference number engraving.

Here is a picture of the case back of a Ref. 2384:

Here is the caseback of the 2179, again with the US Army engraving:

You can see differences in the case wrench notches.  However, I believe that both casebacks with fit either watch, making them totally interchageable.

I also believe that both styles of engraving are genuine and were done by Omega prior to delivery of these watches to the US Army.  Only the radial numeral dials were paired with these engraved cases.  Please note that the above information is not  noted in the Omega Vintage Database.  Ref. 2384 is not associated with the US Army dials on the Database, but I have seen several of these with engraving as above.  Other dials for these references exist, but are not thought to be part of the US Army order from Omega.

To my knowledge, all US Army watches have the caliber 30T2SC movement.

Hope this helps,
