sounds like the mainspring is knackered
for someone who owns several other watches you do seem to show some naivety towards the winding of a watch. all watches, auto or hand wind, are wound with the crown in the closed position. it should start to work after a couple of winds at most and if you've wound it more than 40 times then that would indicate the mainspring has snapped. i would send it back and get a refund or alternatively get it serviced with all broken parts replaced.
hope that helps although i would have thought this was obvious to any watch collector.
