Omega

The answers

As zephyr49 said, the big difference is the hands: Dauphine-style on the 2998 vs white baton hand on the modern one. By the way, the three counters of this 2998-5 have already the baton hands. Only the 2915 and the early 2998 had small dauphine hands for the 3 counters at 3, 6 and 9 hours. To continue, the center chronograph second-hand is also different.

Concerning the dial, the 2 main differences are:
- the metal applied Omega symbol vs white painted logo and
- the text Speedmaster vs Speedmaster Professional with slightly different script style.

The cases can be distinguished by the crown guards that were not present on the 2998. The pushers are also smaller on the 2998 than on the modern speed.

And finally, as Bill mentioned, the less obvious difference is maybe the inner ring attached to the crystal of the 2998. This metal ring has disappeared since.
